2Wire said it is adding wireless in-home networking capabilities to its HomePortal residential gateways.
The company said that the gateway now supports 802.11b wireless networking as well as Home Phoneline Networking (HomePNA) and Ethernet. It added the capabilities to its existing HomePortal 100W and the 2Wire ICS 2000W gateways. The gateways connect home-based devices and PCs to incoming broadband such as DSL.
"The explosive growth in both wireless Internet devices and wireless networking, combined with the rapid growth in the number of broadband homes with multiple PCs, will fuel a strong demand for wireless residential gateways," said 2Wire's president and CEO Brian Hinman.
The HomePortal 1500W costs $699 and is aimed at home users. It includes a built-in ADSL modem and firewall. The HomePortal 100W costs $499 and does not include a cable or DSL modem. The 2Wire ICS 2000W costs $1,199 and is aimed at home office and small office users.
