Digital Airways Wednesday unveiled Wapaka, a Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) microbrowser written in Java.

The company said the microbrowser is designed specifically to work with GSM and GPRS wireless systems, and Bluetooth and infrared for short-range transmissions.

Initially designed for the Palm OS, the company said Java enables it to be easily ported to other operating systems. The company said it is also customizable by specific wireless operators, portals and device vendors.

Wapaka features a multi-session, multi-window environment so users can open more than one WAP site at a time.

The company previously developed a WAP simulator that enables vendors to show wireless-enabled sites in standard Web browsers.
