The handheld virus protection wars flared anew Thursday with the release of anti-virus products for handhelds by two major vendors.

McAfee and F-Secure both announced upgrades for their anti-virus software for handhelds. McAfee announced availability of VirusScan Wireless 2.0, which loads on Palm OS-based handhelds but also can be used, via docking mechanisms on Pocket PC and EPOC-based devices.

McAfee VirusScan Wireless 2.0 is available online and pricing starts at $28 per node for 500 nodes.

F-Secure has released also has released its Anti-Virus for Palm OS, which it claims is a comprehensive approach for preventing damage to Palm-based devices and data. Like the McAfee product, it provides on-device support.

The F-Secure product is available for $25 per user.
