Microsoft's Security Essentials Gets New Features

With security threats popping up on a daily basis, security vendors are constantly updating their software to fend off and anticipate online attacks. Microsoft made a key entry last year when it released the first version of its free Security Essentials desktop software.

Now, as eSecurity Planet reports Microsoft has released an important update to Security Essentials that adds new anti-malware protection. The new version also adds tigher integration with the Windows Firewall and Internet Explorer.


Microsoft quietly released version 2.0 of its free Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) anti-malware product for consumers on Thursday.

In fact, Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) did it so quietly that it didn't even announce the release – not even by a quick blog post. A spokesperson confirmed that MSE 2.0 is currently shipping.
