Mozilla Firefox 18 Gets 25 Percent Faster and 20 Security Updates

The first Firefox release of 2013 is now out and it's a big one.

On the security front there are some 20 security advisories associated with the release, of which 12 are rated as being critical.

Among the critical updates is one for an issue that Google and Microsoft addressed last week. SSL Certificate Authority TURKTRUST mistakenly issued a pair of certificates that were then used to create fraudulent credentials for Google.com.

"We have revoked trust for the two mis-issued certificates, effective with this week's release," Johnathan Nightingale, VP of Firefox Engineering told InternetNews . "We are investigating whether built-in online certification blocklisting would be an improvement. In the interim, our current process allows us to effectively protect our users."
