Microsoft Ships Windows 7 SP1

In the cycle of Microsoft's releases, the initial service pack is a major milestone in the maturation of a product.

Now, Microsoft is putting its Windows 7 through that rite of passage, releasing service pack 1 (SP1) to PC OEMs.

Microsoft's release, which also encompasses Windows Server Release 2 (R2), will be available to corporate customers next week, with the release slated for Feb. 22.

"For Windows 7, SP1 will help keep your PCs well supported by delivering ongoing updates, many of which have been made previously available through Windows Update," Microsoft said.
