VMware is building out its portfolio of IT management tools, this week taking the wraps off of vCenter Operations, a new command center that promises a holistic view of an enterprise's technology apparatus.
"You want to be able to look across your physical and virtual assets like you're in a cockpit with a simple intuitive view of what's going on and be able to respond effectively," said Ramin Sayar, vice president of product strategy for enterprise management at VMware.
The virtualization giant says that vCenter Operations will integrated closely with its vSphere virtualization software, and incorporates assets acquired through the purchase of Integrien last August.
According to one analyst, VMware's latest gambit sends the message that virtualization is so embedded in the data center that it deserver performance-management capabilities on a par with other mission-critical assets.
