VMware Buys Into Desktop as a Service

VMware is continuing to expand its virtualization and cloud solutions with a series of new product releases announced today at the company's VMworld Europe event.

On the end-user computing side, VMware announced the acquisition of Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) vendor Desktone. Financial terms of the deal have not been publicly disclosed. Erik Frieberg, VP of product marketing, End-User Computing at VMware explained to Datamation that with the acquisition of Desktone, VMware will be able to further extend the benefits of desktop virtualization to the cloud.

Frieberg said that one reason that VMware decided to acquire Desktone is because the company has a complete and proven blueprint for enabling service providers to deliver DaaS through its industry-leading technology.
