Loudeye Technologies Inc. Thursday announced it will support the Firepad format, as part of their Digital Media Services and scalable Digital Media Centers, intended to empower consumers with the choice of many different video wireless formats.

Using Firepad's FireProducer application, Loudeye will work with content owners to encode movie trailers, newscasts, and other content to Firepad's mobile format for viewing on Palm Computing platform devices through Loudeye and Firepad's FireViewer. Firepad's technology is designed to display full-screen color video data on a Palm device at up to 25 frames per second.

"Delivering streaming video and animation to handheld devices is an important part of our wireless initiative," said Martin Tobias, minister of order and reason, founder and CEO, Loudeye Technologies, Inc. "Firepad demonstrated a sharp focus on developing technology which provides a means for companies to do this, and Loudeye adds the world-class digital media services required to complete the solution for customers asking for this functionality."

"The wireless industry is on the verge of having large amounts of video content streamed across multiple formats and devices," said Kenneth J. Marshall, president and COO, Firepad, Inc. "Through Loudeye, broadcasters, film studios, and other media companies can have their video content encoded to the Firepad format for streaming to Palm devices."

The relationship with Firepad is a part of Loudeyes pervasive strategy to be the first digital media solutions provider to offer encoding services and support for video and animation formats across the wireless market. Through Loudeyes format agnostic approach, consumers will ultimately be empowered with the choice of many different video wireless formats.
