Hey...is there a trade show or something? Virage announces multiple alliances.

Virage, Inc. has had a big week, with multiple moves and announcements.

First, it has announced integration with Cisco System's Content Delivery Network (CDN) system. The Virage Internet Video Application Platform lets an organization set up and maintain a website that provides searchable access to corporate video libraries through standard web browsers. The Cisco CDN distributes content to Content Engines located at remote sites, and routes user requests to the best Content Engine when it is requested. When a user clicks on a URL to request content, the Cisco CDN streams the content from a local Content Engine to the user's desktop. Since content is delivered locally, rather than over the Wide Area Network (WAN), the end user can access the media at higher data rates - using all standard web browsers and media players - without clogging mission-critical networks.

"Our customers come to us for an easy-to-use and extensible platform for publishing, managing and distributing video on either the Internet or corporate intranets," said Paul Lego, chairman and CEO of Virage. "The ability of our video search products to integrate with a Cisco CDN provides customers with the tools they need to take full advantage of TV-quality on the Web, turning video into a valuable enterprise-wide information resource."

"By using Cisco CDNs with Virage's video tools, enterprises can have total control over all their rich media assets in order to make dynamically published and personalized streaming video a reality," added Jim Ricotta, senior director of marketing, Cisco Systems. "CDNs enable enterprises to add all kinds of rich content to their intranet and extranet websites, and to fully take advantage of this content to enrich and improve applications like e-learning, e-communications and e-commerce. Virage makes it possible for companies to quickly and easily catalog and manage this content, and to enhance these applications."

Further, Virage announced that Inktomi Corp. will use Virage's video technology and platform to enhance the multimedia search capabilities within Inktomi Search Solutions for portals, destination sites and enterprise customers. As the preferred provider of video search to Inktomi, Virage will enable Inktomi to index and search video content throughout the Internet for its Inktomi Search/Media offering, which enables users to access an extensive database of multimedia files.

Virage has also partnered with CacheFlow, Inc. to provide enterprises with a way to publish, manage, access and distribute rich media on their intranets or extranets. The joint combination will ensure delivery of Virage-enabled video content directly from the edges of the network with CacheFlow appliances. In addition, Virage will join CacheFlow's Adaptive Content Exchange (ACE) Partner Alliance.

Add to that Anystream, Inc. and Telestream have joined the Virage Developer Program. Through this partnership, Anystream will integrate support for the Virage SmartEncode process and the Virage Internet Video Application platform into its Agility Enterprise Encoding Platform. Telestream will integrate support for the Virage Internet Video Application Platform and Virage-enabled video into its FlipFactory multi-format publishing software, and Virage will promote FlipFactory as a plug-in streaming media encoding solution for its platform.

Virage has also teamed with Network Appliance to deliver video content from the network edge and Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) has extended its use of Virage technology to include archived video clips from three additional programs on its website, PBS.org.

Last but not least, Virage announced the release of Syndication Manager 2.0, the company's newest version of their video syndication application for the Web. Syndication Manger 2.0 allows companies to share video assets with authorized partners and gives them control over content specifically packaged to fit each partner.

Like we said, busy week.
