The Palo Alto-based media company Monday says it is wrapping its streaming broadcast arm around the Ralston Purina company (NYSE: RAL) to help the pet food maker with Purina TV.

The multi-media site streams video, audio and text information on pet research, nutrition, training and health, and features hands-on demonstrations by some of the nation's leading pet care experts.

"Our goal at Purina is to improve the lives of pets and their owners," says Purina Interactive Group Director Michael Moore. "With Purina TV, we are using leading edge technology to create a video rich learning resource that makes it even easier to access the company's extensive knowledge base. We have always had great pet care content from trainers, behaviorists and nutritionists. Now, it's been brought to life using this technology."

After clicking on the Purina TV link or through various places at Yahoo! Pets, a triple-pane pops up in single screen format. If you have never used Yahoo! Broadcast, you will need to download a small file to see Purina TV.

St. Louis-based Ralston Purina says the pop up window has an auto detect feature to pick the user's best video speed and media player. The company says it went into its company archives to create a type of video knowledge base and says it plans for frequent updates and live Webcasts.

Purina TV is part of an ongoing relationship between Ralston Purina and Yahoo!. In addition to Purina TV, Yahoo! publishes Purina's "Daily Tips" on cat and dog care in the popular My Yahoo! personalized home page.
