Leveraging SkyStream's standards-based broadcast networking equipment, iBEAM said it intends to improve its architecture to deliver audio and video streams to service and content providers. As a result, Internet content providers will be able to further maximize return on media asset investments while minimizing transmission costs.
SkyStream's media routers enable satellite, cable and digital television broadcasters to deliver Internet content through secure, high-quality broadcast transmission streams. iBEAM will use the SkyStream DBN-26 media router in its worldwide network to stream live webcasts and high-bandwidth Internet content to businesses and consumers. iBEAM will implement this technology throughout its network of servers, which are connected via satellite
Using open, interoperable broadcast networks, SkyStream allows broadcasters to choose selective components to create networking infrastructures.
"We chose SkyStream's broadcasting platform because it allows us to deliver profitable and reliable Webcasts for our customers," said Jeremy Zullo, vice president of engineering of iBEAM Broadcasting. "The Skystream platform's support for the open DVB standard will allow iBEAM to scale its delivery to meet the needs of mass audiences."
The integration of SkyStream's DBN-26 media router into iBEAM's satellite network is designed to:
- bring media-rich Web content closer to the end-user while allowing low cost, high quality transmission
- provide delivery of large media files without data loss, while protecting the integrity of the broadcast content
- ensure scalability to reach large audiences
"iBEAM is a recognized leader in servicing the growing demand for delivering richer audio and video streams," said Clint Chao, vice president of marketing at SkyStream Corp. "We share their vision that broadcasting Internet content to bypass bottlenecks in the existing Internet infrastructure is going to be a very large market opportunity."
