Palm Wednesday unveiled its own Web browser aimed at use with its Net-connectible handhelds.

The company said that its Palm Web Browser provides more powerful capabilities than the browsers that come with its handhelds. It will be available in the U.S. on April 8, in Europe at the end of April and other regions of the world at some time after that, the company announced.

The HTML-compliant browser provides standard features such as bookmarks offline viewing, a cache to speed performance and a history list of previously-viewed site. It will be localized in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Japanese.

The browser will cost US$19.95, according to the company. It is designed for use with the company's m125, m130, m500, m505, m515 and i705 handhelds.

Handspring, which uses the Palm platform for its handhelds, also has released a browser, the Blazer, which also sells for $19.95.
