Motorola, Audible Team For Wireless

Motorola Inc. and Audible Inc. Monday agreed to bring Audible's news, information and entertainment audio to wireless subscribers using Motorola's iDEN technology.

Customers will be able to download customized content from the audible.com Internet audio service via the iDEN wireless handset's microbrowser.

Audible's (ADBL) spoken audio titles can then be played back using the handset's speakerphone or other hands-free accessories, including headphones or a car kit while the user is commuting, exercising or travelling.

iDEN phones that support Audible content are expected to be available in the second half of 2000.

The letter of intent includes mutual compliance between future Motorola iDEN handsets and Audible's spoken audio content service.

"This letter of intent with Audible represents Motorola's dedication to providing the most advanced communication capabilities to our customers," said Bill Werner, corporate vice president of Motorola (MOT) and general manager of the iDEN Subscriber Group.

"By arranging for Internet audio to be delivered directly to our integrated digital wireless phones, we are enabling a new solution to make our customers more productive and better informed."
