Cingular Wireless, which already has launched next-generation GPRS service in Seattle, Tuesday said it was adding access to enterprise e-mail to the service.
Dubbed Xpress Mail, the company has been rolling out the service to a handful of customers and is expected to be fully deployed later this fall. It employs mobile software developed by SEVEN, Cingular said.
Specifically, the technology provides access to Microsoft Exchange e-mail via the GPRS network. The system also works on current-generation GSM and TDMA systems.
The system enables users to see subject headers. They then can download the entire message to the handset if they wish. The wireless carrier says that enterprises can deploy the system without installing additional hardware or software.
