Netaphor Software announced Tuesday that it will soon release it's product, PDAlert. PDAlert is designed for wireless monitoring of network devices in the enterprise.

PDAlert runs on handhelds equipped with 802.11b modules. Currently supported PDAs, according to Netaphor, include Palm handhelds, devices running Palm OS v3.5, Handspring Visors, and Compaq iPAQ Pocket PCs.

PDAlert will display status information about a variety of network devices. The software is being designed in multiple configurations enabling users to target particular sets of needs. Standard versions deliver alerts corresponding to a pre-defined list of conditions, such as printer errors, changes in online/offline status, and levels of consumables.

According to Netaphor, their administrative version will work in conjunction with the alarm database of HP OpenView's Network Node Manager. OpenView alarms get forwarded to the network administrator's handheld as they occur. OEMs will also be designing customized versions of PDAlert, the company said.

Netaphor is running a Beta testing program for PDAlert. The company stated that the software should be available in the first quarter of 2002. More information can be found at the company's Web site.
