SWsoft Inc., a South San Francisco-based automation software vendor that targets hosting service providers, today announced an OEM agreement with Plesk, a Chantilly, Va.-based company that offers administration and management software for Web hosters. Under terms of the agreement, Plesk will offer SWsoft's virtual private service technology, Virtuozzo.
Virtuozzo is virtualization technology designed to allow hosting providers to dynamically control and manage server resources, increase hardware efficiency and support Linux-based applications. Virtuozzo, SWsoft reports, offers the flexibility and scalability of a dedicated server as well as the benefits of low cost and ease of a use offered by a shared server environment. The patent-pending technology, according to SWsoft, is designed to allow a virtual private service to scale to 64GM of RAM across 16 CPUs.
The OEM agreement will allow Plesk to bundle its Plesk Server Administrator management software with Virtuozzo. Plesk's software is designed to allow administrators to view and manage their hosting server network from a single, secure console. The agreement also includes the addition of a server administrator provisioning tool to be deployed with Virtuozzo.
SWsoft and Plesk hope that by teaming up, they can better tap the market for Web hosting, which research firm IDC estimates will reach $20.8 billion by 2006, up from $4.8 billion in 2001.
"The agreement with Plesk is the beginning of many new opportunities for SWsoft and just an introduction of Virtuozzo becoming the industry standard for VPS," Serguei Beloussov, SWsoft's CEO, said.
The companies report that to help promote the OEM agreement, Plesk will offer a special package that includes the following for a special rate of $4,900: the Virtuozzo Management Console, 10 virtual private server on one physical server (up to 2GHz) and 10 PSA licenses to manage the new VPS. Plesk will also include system installation, one year of 24x7 e-mail support and one year of updates for both companies' software. Sold separately, SWsoft and Plesk report, the products would cost $6,479.
