Beginning this fall, AT&T Wireless Services Digital PocketNet users will be able to access AOL e-mail, news, weather and stock quotes for a fixed fee.
Subscribers pay a flat rate of $7 each month for unlimited e-mail access or $15 a month for full service, which includes the basic e-mail service plus calendars and to-do lists. AT&T Wireless Services currently provides wireless Web access to more than 40 Internet sites.
Kendra Vandermeulen, AT&T Wireless Services senior vice president of new products and strategy, said mobile e-mail access is the primary motivator for consumers to purchase wireless devices.
"The need for mobile e-mail access is driving the adoption of wireless devices today," Vandermeulen said. "Now millions of AOL members and others can send and receive e-mails without watching the clock. We look forward to providing them with flat-rate, all-you-can-use pricing plans, and offering mobile access to AOLs popular features and services."
AT&T Wireless Services has been striking deals with wireless content providers throughout the year to build content for its Digital PocketNet portal.
Earlier this year, AT&T signed agreements with Go.com, Novell Inc. and Excite@Home to beef up its wireless
Internet services and content.
