Online Retailers Enjoying Brisk Holiday Season

In some ways, it's been a mixed bag for online retailers this holiday season. Sixty-five percent of consumers polled recently by comScore said that they had not finished their holiday shopping. Of those, a third said they had held off on some purchases because they were operating under a tight budget.

So on one hand, Internet merchants clearly haven't racked up all the sales that they might have in more certain economic times, but sales since November are still up 12 percent from the same period last year. And according to comScore, this week is likely to be the heaviest spending week of the season for ecommerce sites. ECommerce Guide takes a look.

Online retailers have gotten off to a strong start to the holiday season, and if a new survey from comScore is any indication, they are well positioned for a flurry of last-minute shopping as consumers round up the last items on their lists.

The Web metrics firm found that 65 percent of consumers polled haven't finished their holiday shopping, with many saying they're operating under a tight budget. ComScore Chairman Gian Fulgoni suggested the poll could indicate that shoppers are holding out for their final paycheck ahead of the holiday before purchasing their last items.
