BSQUARE Unveils WinCE Appliance Dev Kit

BSQUARE Wednesday unveiled its new iWin Information Appliance Design Kit for designing, developing and deploying Windows CE-based Net appliances.

The company said that several large vendors, including Matsushita Electric Industrial, National Semiconductor and Sageport have committed to iWin for information appliances.

The kit is aimed at development of devices such as tablet handhelds, e-book readers and set-top boxes. The company said the kit is a unified approach that means vendors won't have to piece together software from multiple sources.

According to BSQUARE, the kit includes tools to help OEMs develop graphical user interfaces, customize and brand devices for specific markets. It supports remote updates of the devices after deployment. it also includes support for creating software plug-ins and customizable applications such as e-mail and instant messaging.

The company showed the kit at the Windows Embedded Developers Conference this week in Las Vegas. It provided no specific pricing or release information.
