Continuing the trend toward building Internet and interactive capabilities into televisions, Ch.1 said Wednesday its Internet appliance module will be built into Sylvania's forthcoming forthcoming digital high-definition televisions.
As with previous announcements from television vendors such as Zenith, the Sylvania televisions will be able to connect to the Internet with use of a PC or separate set-top box. Sylvania is expected to release the televisions in May of this year.
The first Sylvania television with the capabilities will be a 27-inch model. In addition, Ch. 1 will sell buyers of the TV Internet access and interactive content under a variety of plans starting at $8.95 a month. The Ch. 1 system includes a built-in 56Kbps modem.
Ch.1 said it would customize its web browser and client software for the Sylvania products.
