Radware Rolls Out App Delivery Platform

Radware on Monday unveiled the Alteon 5412, an application delivery platform that promises improved application switching throughput and scalability in a pay-as-you-go model for enterprise datacenters.

The releases comes seven months after Radware acquired the Alteon application delivery product line—including it’s Linux-based VSS 5000 virtualization optimized networking switch—from bankrupt networking-equipment maker Nortel for $18 million.

Company officials said Alteon 5412 marks a significant step forward in performance and flexibility that will "drive performance, productivity and meet customers' current and next-generation datacenter network and application needs."

"Radware is committed to investing in the Alteon product line, and executing on a plan to ensure long-term growth and support for our Radware-Alteon customers,” said Radware COO Ilan Kinreich, in a statement. “For years, customers have found success with Alteon application switches and our goal is to build on this momentum and evolve the product to deliver an optimal user experience."

The application delivery platform serves up to 20 Gbps of application switching throughput capacity and up to 340,000 Layer 4 transactions per second, according to Radware officials. It also offers four 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports and 12 GE ports, allowing customers to process high-traffic capacity throughout the datacenter.

It ships with dual power supply configurations and redundant out-of-band management ports and is certified across all major hardware and networking standards.

Alteon 5412's Virtual Matrix Architecture creates a virtual matrix of memory and processor resources across the switch, giving datacenter administrators the ability to process traffic from any port at any time.

"Radware is building a bank of goodwill with Alteon customers and partners by restoring the Alteon brand and advancing the product line with the introduction of the 5412," said IDC analyst Lucinda Borovick. "Offering platform longevity with a five-year support program, Radware Alteon customers can reduce capital and operational expenditures, making the 5412 a credible long-term application delivery option for global enterprises."

Radware officials said Alteon 5412 delivers carrier-grade reliability featuring custom-made hardware and embedded components to provide optimum mean time before failure (MTBF).

Alteon 5412 is the latest offering included in the company's Business Smart Data Center product line.
