HP Shares Lessons in Data Center Consolidation

HP always had a partial networking offering, but the purchase of 3Com made it possible for the company to create a complete networking products division. Like any good vendor, HP became its own customer and is using that gear internally to consolidate its own data centers.

With the recent acquisitions of EDS and 3Com, HP has some streamlining to do, starting with all those new data centers. Enterprise Networking Planet gets the details on the reduction plans.

LAS VEGAS -- HP's networking portfolio is now complete enough that it can power the computer giant's own network. This, according to HP's CIO Randy Mott, who spoke this week at the Interop conference here.

Mott joined Marius Haas, senior vice president and general manager at HP Networking, who detailed how HP (NYSE:HPQ) is integrating the technology assets it recently gained with its $2.7 billion acquisition of 3Com.
