For at least the last five years, Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) has been working on safe browsing technologies for web browsers. Google's Safe Browsing is built into Firefox as well as Google's own Chrome browser.
Now with the dev-channel release of Chrome 12, Google is taking safe browsing to the next level.
Though the safe browsing feature helps to protect users, there still is a risk that users can still be exploited.
"A separate attack vector exists, which is a social engineering mechanism that attempts to convince a user to download and run a file," Ian Fette, senior product manager at Google told InternetNews.com. "This new feature is designed to protect against the latter type of attack, where a user is convinced to download and run a harmful file."
