Microsoft's IE8 Browser Makes Modest Gains

Microsoft continues to feel the effects of intense competition in the battle for browser share from the likes of Mozilla's Firefox, Google's Chrome and Apple's Safari.

Datamation reports on the latest findings from Web analytics firm Net Applications that looked at browser share on a global basis. In addition to its latest browser release, IE8, Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) continues to attract and support earlier versions of the browser.

Internet Explorer (IE) continued its slow slide in November, even though IE8 use ticked up during the past month, according to new statistics from a leading Web analytics firm.

Net Applications found that Microsoft's market share for IE overall fell to 58.41 percent of browsers in use globally -- down 0.77 percentage points from 59.18 percent in October.
