In a play to online shoppers in Scandinavia, MeritaNordbanken has opened a new bilingual portal and virtual marketplace dubbed the Solo Mall.

The site is translated into two languages for the Swedish and Finnish markets, and customers can pay by Swedish Kronor, Finnish Mark or the euro.

Security has been an important concern in the development Solo Mall, and the company has decided to execute payments through MeritaNordbanken‘s online bank.

“Solo Mall is supposed to be a safe marketplace on the Net, for both sellers and buyers with high security and integrity. With this concept we have introduced a form of ‘safesecure’ e-commerce,” said a MeritaNordbanken spokesperson.

Some of the online stores from Sweden are Ahléns, Polarn & Pyret, Dressmart and SAS. A total of around 40 companies have signed agreements to open storefronts at Solo Mall.

The Solo customers will also have the possibility to shop and pay bills with WAP phones.

MeritaNordbanken has a total of 840,000 Internet customers with user identification codes set to also activate WAP phone access.
