Oracle Acquires Israeli Startup Convergin

Another day, another Oracle acquisition. This time the software giant has gone abroad to acquire Convergin, a privately held startup that specializes in real-time service brokerage applications. Enterprise Networking Planet looks at Oracle’s latest purchase and how it might dovetail with the software giant’s growing interest in mobile apps.

Oracle on Wednesday announced the acquisition of Convergin, an Israel-based developer of real-time service brokering applications that allow telecommunications providers deliver services across multiple networks and platforms.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Earlier this week, Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL) acquired SOA management software developer AmberPoint.

Since 2005, the software giant has made a total of 54 purchases.

“The combination of Oracle and Convergin is expected to provide a single carrier-grade, standards-based IT platform allowing CSPs to effectively evolve their service delivery capabilities at a lower total cost of ownership,” Oracle officials said in a statement.

Convergin’s service broker technology allows them to continue serving customers while phasing in next-generation IP platforms, a feature that will surely help the Redwood Shores, Calif.-based company as it expands its software suite to more mobile applications.
