Borland Joins WS-I, Adds New Customers

Showing its commitment to the growth of Web Services Borland Software Corp. , the Scotts Valley, Calif.-based e-business platform provider, today announced it has joined the Web Services Interoperability (WS-I) Organization, a group formed last month to help accelerate the development and deployment of interoperable Web services across different platforms, applications and programming languages.

Borland says it is helping its customers implement Web Services applications and achieve greater interoperability, through its standards-compliant development and deployment solutions, which feature Borland JBuilder, C++Builder, Delphi, Kylix, and Borland Enterprise Server.

“Borland is delivering solutions and working with our customers to provide Web Services solutions that create operational efficiencies among hundreds of information technologies, business processes, partners, and customers,” says Frank Slootman, vice president of software solutions at Borland.

“Our entrance into the WS-I builds on Borland’s focus to provide seamless application interoperability between Web Services on Java, .NET, Windows, and Linux. Participating in WS-I continues our leadership and involvement in development and deployment standards across the technology industry.”

InSystems, a provider of e-business solutions for the insurance industry, is using JBuilder 6 to develop eXtended Relationship Management (XRM) applications for its insurance industry customers.

The firm says the solutions enable insurance organizations to provide branded web self-service to manage relationships that both improve customer retention and reduce administration costs.

“Borland’s development environment for Web Services enabled savings of more than $1 million in the first implementation of our Insurance industry project,” says Doug Hadden, group product manager at InSystems.

“With JBuilder’s Web Services capabilities, we built a reusable framework and an application, integrating legacy systems, giving InSystems customers superior customer service capabilities. We developed the application in a quarter of the expected time and InSystems continues to save through Web Services reusability,” he explains.

Additional customers using Borland’s technology to build Web Services include:

  • Real estate firm, Colliers International, which is working with Borland partner, Kazoo Software, Inc.,

Colliers is using Delphi 6 and Kylix 2 to create cross-platform Web Services applications that connect real estate agents with property information, prices, and clients from databases and other sources across the organization.

  • AvestaPolarit a stainless steel company and the first European firm to go live with Borland’s Web Services solution.

AvestaPolarit is using Delphi 6 and Borland Enterprise Server to develop and deploy a Web Services application designed to give all its business units access to production data at every stage of the manufacturing process.

Avesta says the solution will allow it to streamline the flow and management of critical data about the production process.
