Comcast said Tuesday that it has launched a new
security offering for its high-speed Internet customers that will include
three software products that protect against online threats.
Philadelphia-based Comcast, the nation’s largest broadband provider, is now offering its 7.7 million High-Speed Internet customers three McAfee software products —
VirusScan, Personal Firewall Plus and Privacy Service — for free. The
products are valued at $115.
“We want our customers to have the best broadband Internet experience,”
Greg Butz, senior vice president of marketing and business development for
Comcast Online, said in a statement.
Comcast launched the McAfee Internet security solution as a complement
its existing service, according to Butz.
“It’s extremely easy to use, automatically updates and will help keep our
customers safe,” he said. “We partnered with an industry leader to offer our
customers a product they will recognize and value.”
Comcast also plans to add an anti-phishing feature to its Comcast Toolbar
this fall. The free download is designed to give high-speed Internet
customers access at the top of their browser to the most popular features on
Comcast.net.
The Internet provider offers tutorials for customers focusing on
security issues. Users can turn to the Comcast.net Security Channel for
education about the latest threats and learn how they can stay protected.
When a new virus is uncovered, Comcast updates its Security Channel to warn
customers of potential dangers and provides links to updates.
