Digex UK to Host Online Traffic Office System

Sep 19, 2001

Digex (UK) Ltd. , a provider of managed Web and application hosting services today announced that Advecto, a UK-based online traffic office system provider, will use Digex to host and manage its online transport planning system.

Advecto’s online transport planning system, Advecto Online, integrates map-based planning, routing and scheduling, and can track and trace consignments for customers. This allows operators to move data from operations to accounting and customer invoicing without having to re-key information. The system is also designed to integrate with satellite tracking, in-cab messaging, warehouse management systems, EDI and e-commerce sites.

Advecto will use Digex for management of its online customer interfacing tools as well as Advecto’s public Web site, www.advecto.com . “Uptime is critical to our business,” said Piyush Shah, chief executive, Advecto. “We needed a managed hosting provider to offer more than just reliability. As the needs of the transport and logistics industry continue to change, flexibility and scalability are equally important criteria,” he says.

Thomas Davidsson, Digex’s senior VP Europe says that companies like Advecto can capitalize on benefits that significantly reduce time to market and lower operating costs: “An increasing number of companies are recognizing the advantages of outsourcing their Internet business to managed hosting providers,” he says.
