Business content management software provider Day.com Tuesday says Dr. Roy T. Fielding has joined Day as its new Chief Scientist.

Dr. Fielding is widely known for his work in developing and defining the WWW infrastructure through his work with the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). He is the primary architect of the current Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP/1.1), co-author of the Internet standards for HTTP and Uniform Resource Identifiers (URI), and a founder of several open source software projects, including the Apache HTTP Server Project, producing software that runs over 60 percent of all public Internet web sites.

“The opportunity to work with Roy to explore ground-breaking global architectures that will make significant contributions to the way the World Wide Web is used in the future is exciting,” says Day CTO David Nuescheler. “Roy’s work in open source projects and his contribution to the standards that now power the Internet will be of great value as we develop new standards to move the ability of business to use the web as a true delivery channel forward.”

The Newport Beach, Calif., and Basel, Switzerland-based Day recently launched its Communique Unify and Communique 3.0, two Java-based products.

The two applications are based on Day’s ContentBus. The architecture allows real-time read/write access to any data source, including file systems, databases, middleware, EAI tools, enterprise or custom applications and legacy business systems.
