EMC Teams With Oracle

As part of a new partnership, EMC will provide data storage for Oracle’s new customer service and sales force automation initiatives. Terms were not disclosed.

A third tech titan, Cisco Systems will contribute networking equipment for the
Support.Oracle.com and Sales.Oracle.com sites.

“This infrastructure ensures that the service is online all the time,” said Don Swatik, EMC’s vice president of global alliances.

Support.Oracle.com lets customer service reps create and manage service requests and work queues, review tasks, and find answers to many different service
inquiries. Sales.Oracle.com provides sales force automation software to more than 15,000 companies and 150,000 users worldwide.

“The success of our online CRM services depends on the reliability and performance of the services,” said Mark Barrenechea, a senior vice president with Redwood
Shores, Calif.-based Oracle. “We are pleased to be working with our partners Cisco and EMC to provide our customers with an online service with near
100-percent uptime.”

This is the second big alliance struck by EMC in the last week. Earlier, the Hopkinton, Mass., giant inked a customers support agreement with Novell , of Salt Lake City, to resolve service call for mutual customers more efficiently.

At midday, shares of EMC were down a fraction of a point to 34.9. In the last year, the issue has been as high as 104.94 and as low as 30.25. Meanwhile, Cisco
and Oracle traded up slightly.
