Micromuse Inc. (Nasdaq: MUSE), a provider of fault management and service assurance software, Tuesday (March 13) announced that I.NET, the British Telecom-owned network ASP based in Italy, has selected the Netcool suite as the core component to manage its Internet, e-commerce and Web services which are offered throughout Europe.
“I.NET was founded in 1994 as an Internet service provider geared to business clients, at a time when the Internet was still in its infancy,” said Marco Negri, technical director at I.NET. “We have expanded greatly since then, and we required a robust management solution to replace our in-house system. We naturally looked to Micromuse, who have the experience and innovation in the Internet arena to pre-empt and respond to our requirements.”
I.NET selected Micromuse’s flagship Netcool/OMNIbus application, along with the Netcool/Impact software and the Netcool/Internet Service Monitors (Netcool/ISMs) suite. Combined, these applications provide a service assurance solution for real-time, end-to-end monitoring of I.NET’s network service offerings. These offerings include connectivity, content management, Web farm services, managed e-business platforms, corporate messaging outsourcing, secure intranet/extranet and other value added services.
I.NET is implementing the Netcool/OMNIbus application to consolidate faults from thousands of devices and management environments throughout its infrastructure in real time. The Netcool/Impact application will be used to determine how specific problems on the network may impact business processes, services and customers.
The Netcool/ISMs suite will help to maintain the uptime of Internet services with information on availability and response time. The overall Netcool solution will help I.NET’s network operators manage an increasingly complex and demanding IP network, quickly identify and create relationships between infrastructure faults and the availability of services, and provide more detailed and useful service level agreements.
“I.NET has direct interconnectivity with all the primary Italian ISPs and links throughout the world,” said Adrian Rowland, Micromuse’s director, Internet Strategies. “We are delighted to be working with such an innovative market leader. We were able to prove the benefits of the Netcool solution immediately, and quickly allowed their network operators to start responding to events from across their complex IP network.”
Micromuse’s Netcool software suite collects management data from more than 300 management environments and network devices, including voice, data and Internet. Fault data is rapidly processed and filtered by the Netcool ObjectServer, an in-memory database. The Netcool suite helps operators to build views of service availability in real time, helping them manage networks more efficiently. Because it is scalable and deploys rapidly, the Netcool suite helps service providers expand their networks as their markets grow.
