Lucent Technologies and Sun Microsystems, Inc. announced today they have entered into an international partnership to offer a pre-packaged suite of networking products and services for Internet service providers.

The package, called the “ISP bundle,” is designed to enable ISPs to quickly and cheaply deploy new applications and services, including Internet telephony, security, and messaging solutions, as well as Internet access and application-hosting.

Lucent said its NetCare Services division will provide tech consulting, design and architecture planning, network security, installation, integration services, project management, engineering services and fault management, configuration recovery, and performance management for the new offering.

The ISP suite is divided into four categories:

  • Service Provisioning: compartmentalizes various ISP services such as
billing, virtual private network services, customer network management, call centers and outsourced E-mail services.
  • Network Access: features high speed, low-cost IP-based access products that enable dial-in/dial-out access to the Internet and the PSTN.
  • Network Security: includes products that offer backbone network access, including Lucent’s Managed Firewall and ISDN Office Routers.
  • Application Hosting: enables ISPs to grow service portfolios employing Sun Solaris, Sun Internet Mail Server and Sun’s Internet calendar server, news server, and FTP server.

“By combining Lucent’s leadership in building carrier-class networking
products with Sun’s suite of fault-tolerant, highly-available (HA) and
NEBS-compliant servers in the ISP bundle, ISPs finally have a range of
pre-packaged, cost-effective options that enable subscribers to access the
Internet at breakthrough speeds using some of the most reliable and
affordable technologies in the market,” said Carly Fiorina, president of Lucent Technologies Global Service Provider business.

Lucent announced today that the ISP bundle is now available through its sales force.
