Internet service provider MindSpring Enterprises, Inc. Monday launched a division devoted to serving the needs of small business Internet users.

MindSpring Biz intends to provide a “one-stop resource” for Internet access, e-commerce applications, Web design and hosting tools to small businesses.

“MindSpring Biz provides a starting point for our customers to be successful on the Internet, as well as a migration path to support their needs as their business grows, all backed by MindSpring’s high caliber customer service and support,” said Ed Douglas, vice president of sales and marketing for MindSpring
Biz.

Internet access options include Symmetrical Digital Subscriber Line, run over Covad Communications’ infrastructure and offered as a cheaper alternative to T1 and ISDN connections, the company said. Initial service is scheduled to be available in the fall in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Atlanta and Dallas, with additional markets added by 2000. The Covad DSL network reportedly reaches more than 13 million homes and businesses.

MindSpring Biz also offers multi-tiered Web hosting options for business users at every level of expertise including Microsoft Front Page 2000 server extensions, domain name registration, Web site design, storefront/back office applications, e-mail services, bundled Internet access, search engine
registration, encryption security certificates, and credit card and online
payment processing services.
