Web analytics and Web site management tools ASP announced Thursday (April 5) that it has abandoned its free, advertising-supported services in favor of its subscription-based services.

In the 17 months since it launched its paid services, has signed up more than 14,000 customers. The company says that by converting advertising-supported users to paying subscribers in March 2001, it was able to increase sales by 475 percent.

“In April 2001, we believe the company is again poised to convert thousands of formerly free subscribers to its professional Web analytics and Web site management products,” said CEO Josh James.

Novell is one corporate customer that sees the value in outsourcing its Web traffic analysis to an ASP like “The emphasis on professional focus, in addition to the fact that Web sites run by companies like Novell have become very complex, makes the turnkey services offered by very attractive to webmasters responsible for enterprise-level Web sites,” said Kevin Millecam, web information architect at Novell.’s flagship Web analytics service, SuperStats, is being sold by an Enterprise sales team, as well as online. Enterprise services start at $2,500 per year and can run up to $300,000 per year, depending on the amount of traffic or visitors a site generates. SuperStats services are designed to monitor and analyze Web site traffic, increase understanding of crucial Web business metrics, and improve a company’s return from their online investment.
