Pick Systems Announces New Business Model

Apr 17, 2000

Maximizing the combined services and techniques of Allegrix, Inc. and Tarantella Software, last week Pick Systems repositioned its business model for the Internet.

Allegrix, Inc. specializes in providing ISVs with application Web-enabling and brokering services over the Internet. Tarantella, a business enterprise of The Santa Cruz Operation, Inc. (SCOC) ,is a pivotal part of Allegrix’s technology offerings. Its software is designed to provide users with instant access to applications over the Web.

The combination of Allegrix and Tarantella software helped Pick Systems expand its market depth and reach a new breed of customers by launching a new Pick Systems ASP site.

The site offers vertical business solutions developed on the Pick Systems platform by the company’s channel partners. These solutions can be purchased or rented directly from the new site.

“We provide ISVs the software products necessary to move very rapidly into the ASP space without having to fund a huge network development,” said Chris Clabaugh, chief executive officer, Allegrix.

Clabaugh told ASP-News that Pick Systems explored a number of different ways to host on behalf of its dealers. “Allegrix came in and proved what we could do for them,” he said. “We put the application up and expended our IT team’s effort to configure the proper infrastructure which enables Pick to come up with an ASP solution.”

According to Clabaugh, the two companies began talking in November 1999.
