QuickBase Goes Corporate

In its brief existence, Intuit’s QuickBase has been aimed at small business users who needed a way to share information without resorting to e-mailing spreadsheets and other documents back and forth.

According to Intuit, QuickBase has also found a following within corporations. Two years after the launch of the Web-based service, QuickBase is officially entering the corporate world with today’s release of QuickBase for Corporate Workgroups, which expands the features found in the small business version.

The new version is designed to meet the needs of corporate workgroups of 10 to 200 people. Members of a workgroup can use the browser-based service to access their own centralized databases to share information in real time. Intuit claims that Quickbase for Corporate Workgroups can reduce project administration or customer service costs by up to 50 percent.

“In conducting research with our customers, we found that many corporate workgroups were using our small business QuickBase service because of its ease-of-use, versatility and efficiency. We learned from these corporate customers that there were additional capabilities that would be useful to them because of their size, structured organizational roles and more complex processes; so we created QuickBase for Corporate Workgroups,” said Jill Ward, vice president and general manager, QuickBase.

Using QuickBase for Corporate Workgroups, Intuits says users can perform multiple tasks such as track projects among cross-functional teams, share customer information between sales and service departments in the company and manage lists between distributed team members both inside and outside the company.

Enhanced features of QuickBase found in the Corporate Workgroups version include the following:

  • One consolidated workgroup account gives everyone on the team the capability to create databases under one billing account.

  • Greater capacity with database size up to 10 MB.

  • The capability to increase (for additional fees) the number of databases, database storage capacity and users.

  • More control over a user’s accessibility to databases, either by individual or role within the workgroup.

  • Extended permissions, allowing for additional sharing rules within the team.

  • Workgroup administration capabilities, including adding new members, resetting passwords and deactivating members.

  • QuickBase usage monitoring and reporting, designed to give the administrator more control to monitor usage and view lists of databases created by the team that is accessing them.

Pricing for the corporate workgroup service plan starts at $500 per month, which includes 50 standard databases (up to 250KB each), one large database (up to 10MB each), 500MB for attached files and 75 users per database. Additional service packs are available that increase the number of users, databases and storage capacity.

The original service has been renamed QuickBase for Small Business with fees ranging from $14.95 per month to $49.95 per month.

Intuit hosts all QuickBase databases at its San Diego data center. Intuit reports that it employs industry-recognized security safeguards to protect companies’ data, including 128-bit Secure Socket Layers (SSL) protocol to ensure your information is neither intercepted nor corrupted during transmission over the Internet.
