Cable Internet service provider Road Runner will soon deploy its first cable modems based on the DOCSIS standard when Time Warner Cable of Kansas City, Mo., begins offering Internet access through its lines.
Service to Kansas City is scheduled to start during the second quarter and will add nearly 500,000 potential customers to Road Runner’s network.
“Of all the innovative new services made possible by our fiber-optic upgrade of the cable system infrastructure, nothing could be more exciting than offering our customers an entirely new online experience,” said Bob Niles, president of Time Warner Cable, Kansas City.
The Kansas City division of Time Warner Cable provides cable television service to 53 communities in the Greater Kansas City area. The Road Runner service will initially rollout to 357,000 homes located in the city’s currently upgraded areas. The service will be offered for $39.95/month, with an installation fee of $129.00.
Road Runner is jointly owned by Time Warner, MediaOne Group, Microsoft Corp., Compaq Computer Corp. and Advance/Newhouse.
