As part of Space4rent’s strategy to expand its business outside of California to customers throughout the United States, the company entered into an agreement today with Colo.com, an infrastructure company working to bring content-rich, interactive high-speed communications to businesses and consumers nationwide.
In a move that will significantly extend its business scope from a regional to a national provider of managed IT services, Space4rent will provide netsourcing services at select Colo.com carrier-neutral colocation facilities. Space4rent’s netsourcing solutions for Colo.com will include complete infrastructure design and implementation, system upgrades, data backup, multilayer security services, and on-site service and support.
The result of the alliance will benefit both companies and enable them to collaborate on the delivery of a complete online business infrastructure solution that provides Internet businesses with rapid access to advanced network, facility, and netsourcing resources so customers can focus on bringing new products and services to market rather than focus on colocation and infrastructure issues.
“This is a tremendous growth opportunity for the company, and it demonstrates the success of our business concept in less than a year,” said Bob Goetz, president and CEO of Space4rent. “Space4rent has grown considerably in the regional Southern California marketplace, which has positioned us to extend our unique service model. Colo.com’s business strategy to provide a distributed platform of colocation solutions will enable Space4rent to reach the next milestone in the company’s market presence and overall growth.”
Space4rent will also leverage Colo.com’s neutral optical hubs for the deployment of distributed networks and interactive applications and services, offering its customers the freedom to choose among multiple carriers and networks as well as geographic locations. Space4rent uses a monthly fee-based utility model for companies that cannot justify the cost of buying hardware or building a qualified IT organization to maintain Internet-related systems.
“Space4rent’s proficiency in managed services will enable Colo.com to provide its customers with highly scalable infrastructure and bandwidth to meet the resource needs and high-traffic volumes of today’s rapidly growing online commerce businesses,” said William Opet, Colo.com’s president and chief operating officer. “The technology needs of Internet-centric companies can increase dramatically with very little warning. Space4rent’s proven ability to provide on-demand services and support represents the leading competitive edge in this segment of the marketplace.”
By the end of this year, Colo.com representatives expect the company to have more than 20 neutral optical hubs in major metropolitan areas across the United States. The company’s customers are long-distance carriers, competitive local exchange carriers, Internet service providers, and other Internet-based businesses that need to deploy rapidly to the network’s edge. Its facilities provide customers with advanced redundant systems for electric power, temperature and humidity control, fire protection, and security for their servers and other networking equipment. Colo.com is headquartered in San Francisco.
