Enterprise software vendor J.D. Edwards and Unisys
, a provider of e-business solutions, jointly announced yesterday the formation of a strategic alliance combining J.D. Edwards OneWorld, its collaborative business applications with the Unisys e-@ction Enterprise Server ES7000.
J.D. Edwards says that combining the flexibility of its software applications used for collaboration on supply chain management, enterprise, and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and the Unisys ES7000 server will provide companies with a software/hardware package for Microsoft-based architecture.
The partnership is designed so that customers can have a powerful open architecture for the Microsoft Windows 2000 platform and both firms argues that by leveraging each other’s strengths, they will make advanced collaborative commerce more affordable.

Edwards are long-time strategic partners of Microsoft in the enterprise,” says Sureyya Ciliv, general manager, enterprise partner group at Microsoft. “We are pleased that these companies are aligning with each other to capitalize on the performance and reliability capabilities of Windows 2000 and SQL Server 2000 to bring customers superior collaborative commerce solutions,” he continues.
The Unisys ES7000 is based on the Unisys Cellular MultiProcessing (CMP) server architecture. The firm says that the benefits of the CMP architecture, designed for users of large-scale computers, are now available in computing environments using Microsoft and Intel technologies, which have broader market reach.
It is designed to accommodate the most demanding levels of availability and scalability for server consolidation, line of business and dot-com solutions, large data warehouses, econometric analysis, large-scale simulations in science and engineering, and online transaction processing.
“The addition of J.D. Edwards’ enterprise applications to the Unisys ES7000 is a significant step in bringing sophisticated e-commerce capabilities within reach of growing customers,” says Mike Thomas, vice president of global solution partners at Unisys.
“For scalability, high availability and price/performance, Windows-based systems are a convincing choice over UNIX/RISC-based alternatives,” he argues.
