USi, an Annapolis, Md.-based enterprise ASP, today announced USiRemote, a product designed to allow large companies to implement USi application support and management services while maintaining core technology infrastructure in their own data centers.

The product is currently available for USi’s ERP (enterprise resource planning) ASP software solutions. It will be sold either on a stand-alone basis or as part of a transition to USi’s core ASP service. USi’s iMAP portfolio of service offerings include software from Ariba, BroadVision, Lawson, Microsoft, Oracle, PeopleSoft and Siebel.

“Large enterprises will more quickly embrace ASP solutions if providers remove traditional barriers to entry like infrastructure shift in control, while maintaining high value and quality of service. Offering productized application management features may ease enterprise transition to a full ASP-hosted application management service offering,” said Ted Chamberlin, an analyst with the Gartner Group.

USiRemote features the following options:

  • Onsite and offsite application management
  • Onsite and offsite process support
  • Supportable service level agreements (SLA)
  • Global services platform tools governing:

Process — DBA, OS, monitoring, software, security, configuration management and “onsite hands” and

Infrastructure — network, hardware, security, storagstorage and backup

USi envisions enterprise customers benefitting by offloading application management and support tasks to USi, whose core business as an ASP includes application management and support. USi says its USiRemote will allow enterprises to improve availability and security, while permitting increased focus on more strategic IT activities.

“USiRemote effectively extends USi’s application management platform into the enterprise,” said Michael Harper, chief marketing officer at USi. “USiRemote allows a large enterprise to quickly realize many of the benefits of an ASP solution, without immediately migrating all underlying infrastructure and critical data to a USi data center.”

USi currently claims more than 40 ERP ASP client accounts, with more than 26,000 users of its financial and human resources products.

USi is currently restructuring under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy code (see USi Files Bankruptcy, Sells Equity).
