ViPs Launches Medical Internet ASP


ViPS , a Baltimore-based Internet healthcare technology company, is launching ViPSConnect. The company says it is the “healthcare industry’s first-ever decision support software (DSS) available through the Internet in an application service provider (ASP) environment.”


ViPSConnect offers Web-enabled data mining and information storage. For HMOs which have reluctantly embraced the Web’s capabilities, ViPSConnect can allow them make the leap from managing legacy client-server systems to ASPs.


“ViPSConnect levels the playing field. Finally, managed care organizations and health plans can use technology to manage their business without having to invest in either software or hardware,” said Jenny Morgan, the company’s president and chief executive officer. “ViPS takes care of IS support, overhead, technical issues, and infrastructure maintenance so our customers can focus their resources on building their business.”


ViPSConnect offers 24-hour access and handles busy peaks in utilization. Housed in a secured data center at ViPS corporate headquarters, the service also incorporates three levels of security to protect data and applications. In addition, ViPSConnect enables healthcare organizations to comply with recently published Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.


ViPS has provided solutions to enhance the performance of healthcare businesses for more than 20 years. ViPS decision support software expects to analyze and manage more than 13 million covered lives this year, a record increase of 45 percent since 1997. ViPS software processes 30 percent of Medicare Part B claims, totaling more than 220 million claims a year.
