CA (NASDAQ:CA) today announced that a broad range of its management software now can monitor and automate the use of Amazon’s (NASDAQ:AMZN) Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2).

CA’s Business-Driven Automation, Service Management, Application Performance Management, and Database Management solutions now support the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2).

“CA has been working with Amazon for over a year,” Stephen Elliot, CA vice president of strategy for the infrastructure management and datacenter automation business unit, told InternetNews.com.

“We have one leg on each side of the fence,” he added. “We work with cloud providers to help them deliver the capabilities they need to and the other leg is on the enterprise side. Our enterprise customers are talking to us about how we can help them scale their deployments, build models, and develop root cause analytics.”

Elliott admitted that few CA customers have actually used Amazon’s EC2, but said that many are interested in it. “People are asking about EC2,” he said. “They’re educating themselves on price points and offerings and they’re asking themselves if they can do it cheaper.”

“I know of at least two brand name large accounts using it,” he added.

“This year is a year of investigation and experimentation,” he said. “IT will start by putting niche products on Amazon EC2.”

The upgrade is free to users with existing licenses.

CA will in the future add EC2 visibility to many of its Systems Management products.
