Looking to help enterprises that face the prospect of integrating applications and data from disparate sources, IONA , a Waltham, Mass.-based Web services integration platform provider, today announced an alliance with consulting and systems integration firm KPMG Consulting Inc.
.
As part of the alliance, the McLean, Va.-based company will use IONA’s Orbix E2A Web services integration and application server platforms to deliver some of the integration service components defined within KPMG’s Strategic Integration Architecture (SIA) framework. Using Orbix E2A, SIA is designed to allow enterprises to integrate custom software and packaged applications, existing mainframe systems and data sources.
Integrating data and information from different applications as component-based services, KPMG says, businesses can minimize systems integration complexity by streamlining business operations, increasing system flexibility and reducing operational costs.
According to Gartner Dataquest research, 67 percent of Web services solutions today are applied to intra-enterprise integration. “Application Integration and Middleware (AIM) vendors will be key players in the Web services market and alliances between systems integrators and AIM vendors to address this market are becoming more prevalent,” said Michele Cantara, principal analyst Gartner Dataquest IT Services.
“The integration challenge facing organizations today is immense,” said Robert Sandie, vice president of global alliances at IONA. “Through our alliance, KPMG Consulting and IONA can offer enterprises a complete software infrastructure solution.”
