Nokia Corp. Friday agreed to bundle its
wireless application protocol server into Lotus’ Domino Everyplace Quick Start, a WAP solution which links corporate
intranets with wireless devices.
With the Nokia WAP Server and Domino WAP connector, content
from Domino databases is converted into
Wireless Mark-up Language (WML) to deliver a personally configured portal
accessible by the WAP device. Domino Everyplace can map any Domino Intranet
application to the WAP Portal and is based on Domino-supported open
standards.
Key features include authentication to a Lotus Domino server, customised
menus for different user groups and WAP-based Domino e-mail, calendar and
corporate directories.
“This marks a major initiative and, at the same time, the first of several
joint Lotus and Nokia initiatives in the pipeline as mobile access takes
center stage in transforming an organization’s Domino users to the wireless
space,” said Fritz Fleischmann, Lotus’ senior vice-president and general
manager in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
