Planet-Intra.Com Thursday released a downloadable Linux version of its namesake intranet-building software, Planet-Intra.
Designed for small- to medium-sized businesses, Planet-Intra provides a no-programming, secure and customizable intranet, the company said. The current tool includes search capabilities, a user database, dynamic directory structure and file and document management. Future versions are set to include a calendar, scheduler and contact database.
Already offered to Windows NT operating systems, the move to offer a Linux version shows the company’s commitment to new technology, said Alan McMillan, co-founder and CEO of Planet-Intra.Com.
“Because Linux is a free operating system, bundling Planet-Intra with Linux makes for an overall low-cost solution for small and medium-sized enterprises,” he said. “We virtually eliminate the high cost of development and resource drain required for implementation of existing alternatives.”
Planet-Intra.Com’s tools for NT and Linux are both priced at $599 for 25 users, with higher prices for larger user bases.
