Sun Serves Up More Recipes

Sun Microsystems,
Inc.
said today that its
Sun and Lotus solution recipes program for its 450 Enterprise server have
been so successful in the workgroup messaging and Web application market,
that it is now making recipes available for the new Sun Enterprise 250
workgroup server.

The company said its Sun servers allow enterprises to consolidate Lotus
mail and Web application
solutions on fewer machines. Specifically the Sun Enterprise 250 server
offers enterprise-class features and functionality in a dual-processor
server. It also provides an extensive variety of built-in RAS features and
remote management
capabilities, so that the system combines power, storage capacity, fast I/O
throughput and network I/O speed, making it an appropriate system for
business critical applications such as database,
Internet/intranet, ERP and collaborative computing.

The Enterprise 250 recipes include:

  • A 10-user license for Lotus clients (choice of Lotus Notes
Desktop, Lotus Notes Mail or Lotus Mail).

  • A coupon for a three-day course, “Release 4.6 Domino Messaging
Administration for Sun Enterprise Workgroup Servers,” that
teaches administrators to set-up, operate and maintain Domino
Mail servers and support messaging users.

  • Coupons for three Domino support calls available in the U.S.

  • A solutions cookbook, or set of instructions, designed to help
resellers custom-configure these solutions for their customers.

These solutions are available in the U.S. exclusively from authorized Sun
resellers, the company said. Interested customers can check availability
and pricing with resellers. Outside the U.S., some
variations of the solutions are available on a market-by-market basis.

Among the corporations employing Lotus Domino on Sun servers are: Canon
Sales, Epsilon Data Management, Hawaii Department of Education and Swiss Re.

“Lotus Solutions Recipes for Sun Enterprise servers are saving both time
and money for the many Lotus customers choosing Solaris as their mail and
Web platform of choice,” said Eileen Rudden, senior vice president,
Communications Products Division, Lotus Development Corp. “The added value
offered by Lotus recipes, combined with the security, scalability and
manageability of Sun Enterprise servers, provides our mutual customers an
excellent platform for Domino applications.”
