Anti-virus software firm Trend Micro has set eyes on the corporate security space, rolling out a slew of new products and a subscription-based virus protection service aimed squarely at the enterprise market.
The expansion of Trend Micro’s Enterprise Protection Strategy (EPS) mirrors moves by competitor Network Associates to beef up its enterprise offerings through an aggressive acquisition strategy.
The Japanese firm, which has U.S. headquarters in Cupertino, Calif., is positioning the latest push as an attempt to plug the gaps in anti-virus protection at the corporate level. Specifically, the plan is to help enterprises secure their networks before new viruses are available and provide services to clean systems after infection.
Trend Micro, which hawks its software through systems integrators and resellers, said the subscription-based Outbreak Prevention Services which was first launched in May 2002 has been ramped up to include additional software residing at all critical points of the network.
“This service can now be enabled through new versions of OfficeScan and ServerProtect for corporate desktops and file and application servers, ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange, ScanMail for Lotus Notes, InterScan Messaging Security Suite for the Internet gateway, and InterScan WebProtect for ICAP for web caching products,” the company said.
It also released Outbreak Prevention Services support for NetScreen-Global PRO, allowing the deployment of outbreak prevention policies to firewall administrators who use the Netscreen-Global PRO
management console.
Trend Micro, known for its PC-Cillin consumer anti-virus software, said it’s clean-up services had also been revamped and upgraded to offers attack-specific cleanup templates that help isolate and get rid of virus remains like hidden guest accounts, registry entries or memory-resident payloads.
These templates have been built into the Damage Cleanup Services which is available as a stand-alone server-based software offering or as feature in OfficeScan and ServerProtect, Trend Micro’s antivirus products for corporate desktops and file servers.
The Damage Cleanup suite also promises to reduce the potential for subsequent assaults, by letting IT administrators determine the effectiveness of their current security infrastructure with reports that track which systems were cleaned and where potential vulnerabilities might be.
Trend Micro also announced enhancements to Control Manager 2.5, a tool that provides centralized management for the company’s security products and services. The enhancements include new reporting capabilities and is set up to let IT admins automatically deploy outbreak prevention policies.
