Austin’s Vignette Corp. (Nasdaq:VIGN), a supplier of customer-driven Internet applications, today announced that wine industry leader Robert Mondavi (Nasdaq:MOND) has successfully launched a new intranet built on the Vignette Content Management Server software.
The site, called “Connect,” provides Robert Mondavi’s sales and marketing employees with a sophisticated Web-based application for accessing a centralized store of vital wine and sales information, including wine descriptions, pictures of labels, harvest reports and accolades and press clippings.
Robert Mondavi expects that the initial release of Connect, which supports functions such as sales reporting, marketing materials, content searches and administrative applications, will enhance productivity in its sales organization. The intranet is also designed to accommodate expanded content and interactivity as future departmental areas are added, such as human resources and shipping. In addition, Connect establishes a foundation for an extranet that will ultimately make the same content available to selected Robert Mondavi customers and distributors worldwide.
“Vignette software has enabled Robert Mondavi to build a robust site that accommodates our current and projected intranet and extranet needs,” said Brian Shelden, director of information systems at Robert Mondavi. “We expect this technology to empower our organization in numerous ways as we proceed with deployment plans.”
The Vignette-driven Connect site builds on four decades of Robert Mondavi family business. Robert Mondavi helped establish the California wine industry with the founding of the flagship Robert Mondavi Winery in the heart of the Napa Valley in 1966. Today, Robert Mondavi produces premium table wines sold in the United States and 90 other countries and boasts annual revenues of more than $427 million.
